Doula Services
As a doula my role is to provide continuous informational, emotional and physical support.
I begin with information during 2 prenatal consultations. I like to schedule a consultation at about 32 weeks. This includes a mini childbirth education course and lasts about 4 hours. Our 2nd consultation is usually around 36 weeks and includes a birth planning session. This session also lasts about 4 hours but may run shorter if you have done sone advance preparation. At the end of these two sessions you will have compiled a binder full of resources to use for your birth. Also during these sessions you and I will create an emotional bond that will facilitate my ability to provide emotional support as you journey through labor and birth.
The informational support continues as I also have a lending library that includes many of my favorite birth and pregnancy related books. I am compiling a resource binder with printed material from my favorite online resources as well. You are welcome to email me with questions and concerns at anytime.
Physical support includes helping you to practice various positions you may want to use during labor and birth. We will also practice various relaxation techniques and body awareness techniques.
I am “on-call” (available via phone or text) from 38 weeks through the onset of labor. I will come to your home at the onset of labor at your request and will stay with you through baby’s first feeding or until mama and baby are comfortably settled. I will stay for a minimum of 1 hour postpartum. I also include 1 postpartum consultation sometime during your 1st 6 weeks so you have a chance to talk about your birth and resolve any issues that come up. At the postpartum session I will leave you with an evaluation form and a local resource listing.
Assuming a typical labor I may be with you providing support for over 16 hours including the pre- and post- natals.
Childbirth Education
I also offer a full childbirth education series. I split my series into a 3 session weekend class. Classes begin Friday evening and continue Saturday and Sunday in the afternoon and evening. I've designed my classes to accomodate working parents who have busy schedules. The hours spent in class total about 20.
I cover topics including effective communication with healthcare providers, comfort techniques, all about epidurals, cesarean delivery, birth planning, the stages of labor, infant feeding basics and so much more!
Lactation Counseling
I am a certified lactation counselor. I provide private hourly lactation counseling at your home or mine.
